Host (Deep):

Hello, everyone… and welcome back to Worthminds. I’m your host, Deep… and today’s episode is one I’m personally very excited about.

We’re diving into the world of fintech, global trade, and the future of payments… with someone who’s leading the way in making money truly borderless.

My guest is Ola Oyetayo, co-founder and CEO of Verto — a global B2B payments platform that helps businesses move money across borders quickly, securely, and efficiently. Ola has been featured on major platforms like the Milken Institute… and he’s been recognized as a voice shaping the future of financial technology.

Ola, welcome to Worthminds.

Guest (Ola):

Thank you, Deep. It’s a real pleasure to be here, and I’m looking forward to this conversation.

Segment 1: The Beginning

Host (Deep):

So Ola, let’s start with your story. Before Verto, you worked in investment banking and finance — yet you decided to step out and build something of your own. What was the moment, or maybe the frustration, that pushed you to start Verto, and why payments of all things?

Guest (Ola):

Great question. You know, having worked in banking, I saw first-hand how complicated and expensive it was for businesses — especially in emerging markets — to send money across borders. The world has gone digital, but payments were still stuck in the past. That gap really frustrated me. My co-founder and I wanted to solve that problem, not just for large corporations, but for SMEs as well. That was the beginning of Verto.

Host (Deep):

That’s so interesting… because solving something as basic as “sending money” doesn’t sound glamorous, but it affects almost every business on earth. When you think back to those first days, how did you even begin building trust with clients, when fintech is an industry where trust is everything?

Segment 2: Leadership & Trust

Guest (Ola):

You’re absolutely right, Deep. In fintech, trust is everything. For us, it started with transparency. We made sure our clients always knew what was happening with their money, and we built a strong compliance framework from day one. And we listened — when you listen to customers’ pain points and genuinely solve them, trust grows naturally.

Host (Deep):

I like that — building trust by listening. Now, Ola, as a leader, you’re not just building tech, you’re also building people. How would you describe your leadership style, and how do you balance being both visionary and practical?

Segment 3: Global Impact & Legacy

Guest (Ola):

I’d say my leadership style is collaborative but focused. I like to set a clear vision, but I also empower my team to make decisions and take ownership. Because fintech is fast-paced, you can’t micromanage — you need a team that can think on its feet.

Host (Deep):

And I imagine that’s even more important when your mission is global. Verto today connects businesses across continents. Ola, when you think about legacy, what kind of long-term impact do you want Verto to have — not just as a company, but as a force for global trade and financial inclusion?

Segment 4: Worthminds Pillars

Guest (Ola):

For me, legacy means making the financial world more equal. Businesses in Africa or Asia should be able to move money as easily as businesses in Europe or the U.S. If Verto helps level that playing field — then we’ve done something meaningful.

Host (Deep):

That’s powerful. And here at Worthminds, we talk about four pillars: leadership, legacy, luxury, and business. So let me ask you this… we’ve covered leadership and legacy — but when it comes to luxury, how do you see luxury fitting into fintech, and into your vision for Verto?

Guest (Ola):

That’s a great angle. I think luxury in fintech isn’t about material things — it’s about experience. For a business, luxury is seamlessness. It’s sending money across the world without delays, without hidden costs, without stress. In a way, luxury is peace of mind.

Host (Deep):

I like that… luxury as peace of mind, as simplicity. Which brings me to business — because at the end of the day, every founder has to balance vision with numbers. Ola, what’s been one of the hardest business lessons you’ve learned in building Verto, and how has it shaped you?

Segment 5: Lessons & Advice

Guest (Ola):

One big lesson has been patience. Scaling a fintech business is not overnight — regulation takes time, partnerships take time, trust takes time. As a founder, you want speed, but the reality is… sometimes slow is the only way to build something strong. That patience has made me a better leader.

Host (Deep):

That’s such an important reminder… because so many entrepreneurs today are chasing speed, but not all speed leads to sustainability. Let me ask you, if you were speaking directly to a young entrepreneur listening to this right now, what’s the one piece of advice you’d want them to take away from your journey?

Segment 6: Human Side & Fun

Guest (Ola):

I’d say — don’t be afraid of failure. Every mistake is feedback. And surround yourself with people smarter than you, because they’ll help you grow faster.

Host (Deep):

Great advice. And now… before we wrap up, let’s lighten things a little. Ola, fintech can sound very serious, but behind the scenes there must be fun moments. What’s one funny or unexpected story from building Verto that still makes you smile today?

Guest (Ola):

There are many! But one that comes to mind is when a client once called us to say, “You’ve ruined my travel plans.” We panicked, thinking something went wrong… but actually, he meant it in a good way. Before Verto, he had to travel in person to move money for his business. With us, he didn’t need to travel anymore. So he joked that we took away his excuse for holidays.

Host (Deep):

That’s brilliant… and I guess that’s when you know you’re really making a difference. Let me ask you, Ola… when you hear stories like that, how does it shape your motivation to keep going?

Closing

Guest (Ola):

It reminds me why we do what we do. It’s not just tech. It’s about real people, real businesses, real impact. That’s what keeps me motivated.

Host (Deep):

Beautifully said. Ola, thank you so much for being on Worthminds today. Your journey, your lessons, and your vision for a borderless financial future — they’ve been so inspiring.

Guest (Ola):

Thank you, Deep. It’s been a great conversation.

Host (Deep):

And to all our listeners… remember this — leadership is about vision, legacy is about impact, luxury can be as simple as peace of mind, and business thrives when it builds trust.

This is Worthminds. I’m Deep… thank you for listening… and until next time… keep leading, keep learning, and keep building your worth.
