Charismatic, Constructive, and Candid
Dr. DeShaun Williams is the founder of The Business Blueprint and host of The Founder’s Table. Known for his business expertise and approachable style, he is also a bestselling and award-winning author.
Early Beginnings
Dr. DeShaun's early life was defined by uncertainty and resilience. He was taken from his mother as a child and later adopted; for much of his life, he did not know who his biological father was. Identity became a question he carried for years. His grandfather became the most stable figure in his life, a quiet example of work ethic and strength. When he passed away in 2010 while he was in seventh grade, the loss forced him to confront grief far earlier than most teenagers.
These experiences shaped his understanding of stability and responsibility. He learned that structure often must be created intentionally. This mindset now guides his work, helping others build businesses grounded in clarity, discipline, and purpose.
Sense of Purpose
For him, the most pivotal moment in life came in 2018. At that time, he was struggling with direction, mental health, and the feeling that he had not yet found where he belonged. He had already dropped out of college multiple times and felt like he was constantly having to restart his life. That year, he attempted suicide; surviving that moment forced him to confront a difficult reality: something in his life had to change.
Later that same year, he launched his first business, even though he had almost no understanding of how entrepreneurship actually worked. He recalls, “It was imperfect, uncertain, and at times chaotic; however, it represented a turning point. Instead of allowing despair to define my future, I chose to rebuild my life through responsibility, growth, and the pursuit of meaningful work.”
Transformative Idea
Dr. DeShaun advocates that businesses should be built on structure, not hype. His early entrepreneurial journey involved trial and error while working traditional jobs. He observed that many entrepreneurs struggle due to a lack of operational clarity, not passion. This insight led to the frameworks and consulting services he now offers, helping entrepreneurs assess legal structure, operations, pricing, sustainability, and compliance.
Navigating High-Stakes Challenges
When facing complex decisions, he relies on principles shaped by both hardship and experience. First comes responsibility; every decision has consequences for people, organizations, and communities. He says, “Leadership requires acknowledging those consequences before acting. Second comes clarity; I examine facts, data, and long-term realities rather than reacting emotionally in the moment. Finally comes sustainability—an essential question I ask myself: will this decision still make sense years from now?”
Biggest Influence on Life
The person who influenced him most deeply was his grandfather. During a childhood marked by uncertainty, he represented stability and guidance. He was not someone who spoke often about leadership; instead, he demonstrated it through everyday actions, discipline, responsibility, and care for others. Dr. DeShaun acknowledged that when he passed away in 2010 while he was still in middle school, it left a lasting void. At the same time, the values he modeled remained with him.
Learning from Failure
Failure has taught him that progress is rarely linear. Throughout his journey, he dropped out of college several times before eventually returning and completing my Associate’s degree in Business Management in December 2025. Each setback forced him to reassess his priorities and direction. At times, those failures felt discouraging; however, they ultimately strengthened my resilience. Today, he no longer sees failure as something to avoid at all costs. Instead, he sees it as a form of education, one that prepares leaders to build stronger systems and wiser strategies in the future.
Measuring True Impact
According to Dr. DeShaun, true impact appears in transformation rather than statistics. Numbers may show progress, but they rarely capture the bigger change that occurs when someone’s life or mindset improves. He says, “My own story involves relocation for opportunity, working while building businesses, and continuing education despite setbacks. I moved to Ohio in 2023 for work, later relocating to West Virginia in 2025; each step represented growth and adaptation. Impact, therefore, becomes visible when someone’s trajectory changes for the better.”
Proudest Moments
Looking back, he is most proud that his lowest moments did not define his final outcome. Surviving a suicide attempt in 2018 could have marked the end of his story; instead, it became the beginning of a rebuilding process. Completing his Associate’s degree in Business Management in December 2025 represented a personal milestone after years of setbacks. Opening his third business on January 5th, 2026, marked another step forward in that journey. He now hopes to expand his ventures, publish more thought leadership, and help more entrepreneurs build businesses.
